The impetus for this piece is "Xanadu" the estate of Charles Foster Kane who is the main character of the 1941 film Citizen Kane. I've always been intrigued by the movie but specifically regarding the metaphor attached to the unfinished estate (Xanadu) which acts as a symbol that one can never achieve the American Dream -it is inevitably elusive. This is why I have situated an "under-construction" house so high up the wall. I want the viewer to have a hard time visually reaching it. This way, the viewer is left with a feeling of longing -to visually see the house.
